installation of 3 mobile broadband connection manager for Australia which apparently works with UK settings (and other sims)

- unplug modem

- uninstall globe/telstra/or other connection software

- reboot

install aussie 3 connection manager

plug modem in and let it detect the drivers (if any fail, point it at C:\Program Files\3 Mobile Broadband\drivers)

load dash and add your settings

Upgrade 3,6 to 7,2 Huawei Modem E 220

I've just got my mits on the latest firmware for the Vodafone Huawei E220. This update upgrades the modem to download at speeds up to 7.2Mbps - compared to the standard 3.6Mbps. I've just installed it and run a speed test in a 7.2Mbps area and I'm getting average speeds of around 2.5Mbps, peaking at 4.3Mbps (see the NetPerSec screenshot). The lack of receive diversity on the device will prevent it from hitting speeds much higher than this.  The usual disclaimers apply here - if you want to install the update do so at your own risk.

Unlocking The Modem with The Unlock Code

To make use of the unlock code, insert an unauthorized sim card to your Huawei modem. Unauthorized sim card meaning sim card from any operators other than the one the modem is currently locked to.
When you do so, you would be prompt for the modem’s unlock code. Just enter the unlock code you have received earlier and voila, you can now use your Huawei USB modem with sim cards from any other operator.
I have tested it on my E1762 and it worked perfectly.

iPad 2 announcement

A lot of people have noticed that the calendar app of iPad 2 has the digit “9” printed on it. And this has got everyone thinking that the announcement on iPad 2 is due on February 9, 2011. Actually the calendar app of the first version of iPad had “27” written on it and the announcement of the same was made on January 27.
The other coincidence is that has got the people thinking is the calendar app date of the iPhone 4 and the fact that the original iPad was announced on a Wednesday as well. No wonder people are waiting for February 9 with bated breath.
